We might as well open an XI thread for the new Star Trek movie as well!
Feel like joining the debate?

Here's the first teaser:

Notice that James Doohan's (Scotty) son (Christopher Doohan) is acting in the movie.

I didn't know that! Nice! :)

What do you all feel about the changes he has made? They seem to do the same with Star Trek as with Batman. More realism and a bit rougher and darker.

I have to say I like it myself, as I've never been a great fan of TOS! I like it - but I like the more realistic ones better!

I suspect this is the idea Shatner presented many years ago when he instead was forced to creade the biggest Star Trek flop ever.

And that idea was? (My memory is week since I am a very old man... :-)) J.

Well, he wanted a new cast and Paramount the old. So he created a script where the old cast looked back in time, when they where younger and at Starfleet Academy. This is exactly what this movie is about - which is why the young Spock actor is the only one that HAD to look like the original. They will do a fade over from old to young. Kirk is dead in that era, to Shatners BIG surprise. hehe

Thats very close to my aducated guess he he. I guessed that poor old spock suddenly got a urgent need to tell some one about how he and kirk made friends and started their life together. J.

Is not the guardian of forever going to be in the movie?
Maybe old spocks travel back into time and meets young kirks and tells him his story, how he dies on that planet in Generations. Then he makes a vulcan mind melt thingy like the thing he did to kirk in the Tos episode "guardian of forever" and make him forget what he have heard....BUT kirk remembers vaguely that he will die alone......Thats why he saids that in crypic:" I've always known I'll die alone"

No since that will break the temporal directive. But maybe old spock, like old janeway, goes back in time on a mission and then follow his younger self from a distance.... J.

But maybe spock has a purpose. They have had pretty stupid purpose before, Like the Assigment:Earth episode, (travel back a few hundred years to witness history) It just screams for TimeTrouble.
